Pablo Picasso
Hello! I love being a vendor at Seaside Shoppes! The majority of my work is painting and restoring furniture, but I also paint and create home decor such as painted oars, coat hooks, votive candles, napkin rings, and tissue box covers. I started painting furniture while on an 8 month leave of absence for breast cancer treatment 5 years ago. It gave me something to do to take my mind off of the side effects associated with chemotherapy. I continued restoring and painting furniture for friends and family after my treatment and eventually left my job as a speech-language pathologist to do it full-time. It is such a great feeling to create something with your hands and I love that I am the one in my family asking for power tools for my birthday and for Christmas!
Hey ya'll, I'm Tammi, also known as Grandma T's Picket Fences. The funny thing about how I got started in this adventure of mine... it was actually on a dare. I started in 2013 after buying several pieces from a particular vendor back in Augusta, GA. She challenged me and said you can do this... and I said "Oh I couldn't". She insisted I could so guess what? I tried and here I am 11 years later, having the best time in my life. At one point during these 11 years, I worked for the airlines. During that time I jokingly said this is my therapy from working at the airport. Now that I've retired from the airport, this has become a full-time, fun, therapeutic adventure for me. I love working with old pieces of furniture and recreating a new AHA moment for someone. Some of my expertise, I would say, are doing my tables., shelves and hall trees that I make out of antique doors. I love painting furniture giving pieces a new life. The most fun thing is meeting all of the neat folks that come in needing a little boost of confidence in creating their "happy place" I do give God all the glory for this talent He has given me!
Her craftsmanship covers areas, such as cross-stitch, crochet, jewelry making, gift basket design, embroidery, and sewing. She loves the joy her gifts bring to others, which led her to go beyond traditional gift-giving. She started her own small business with gift basket design but changed slowly with economic times. Then, Covid and her late husband’s lengthy terminal illness stopped her activities altogether. But, in 2021, she had the opportunity to become a part of the Seaside Shoppes family. She brought her love of sewing and embroidery which is reflected in all the pet accessories, embroidered items, and other gift items that she makes. Suzi loves the interaction with the customers and the artists at Seaside Shoppes and is truly thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this team.
My name is Jo Crawford. As long as I can remember I have Loved all things Beach related. I am a self-taught artist and woodworker. I enjoy painting on any kind of surface: Canvas, Wood, Palm Fronds, Gourds, Metal, Glass, Paper……Whatever I come across that will sit still long enough for me to paint! I use wood to come up with my versions of fish, coastal animals, and all birds. I try to use my imagination to “see” what the piece wants to be in my mind and translate it to all different mediums. I make a lot of outdoor items that includes many seasonal pieces for yards with a strong coastal vibe. You will notice that I use a lot of color in my Art. Color makes me Happy! I hope to evoke Joy and Love in others that see each one of my pieces the way they evoke Joy and Love in Me!
I joined Seaside Shoppes in 2017 when I was making pottery. Now I bring you a colorful SeaSky line of tie-dyed shirts and socks, as well as lino prints, photography, and sometimes a bit of Weird Art. I also offer House of Stonz crystals and rocks to encourage positive energy and to celebrate nature’s beauty.
I've always been an artist. I took as many art courses as I was allowed when I was in school. I took my first pottery class when I moved here in 1994, and that’s when I got hooked on clay.
I sold pottery at several local shops, and also at North Beaches Art Walk for many years. When I came to Seaside Shoppes I found a welcoming home and appreciative customers.
In the last few years I have expanded my artistic practice to embrace all types of art mediums.
Making connections has always been important to me. I hope my art gives you a reason to smile today.
I’m called the “Artsy Grandma”, or Mormor
(mother’s mother) as we say in Sweden. I
started crafting at a young age. And as a
budding entrepreneur, I made and sold
patchwork denim skirts to my friends! My
daughters always had one-of-a-kind, fun,
colorful sundresses.
I started paper crafting in the early 90’s and
became so passionate about it that I bought
a rubber stamping and scrap booking store!
After a few years, I moved that operation to
an on-line store that I ran out of a spare
bedroom.
A couple years later, I found resin through a
friend – and it was love at first pour! I work
mainly with molds, and color is my jam. I am
having a blast doing what I love. Thank you
for your support!
As a young woman, I loved to sew, knit, and macramé, but making a living, first as a high school teacher in the Midwest and then as a professor and administrator at the University of North Florida, left little room in my life for crafts. When I partially retired from UNF in 2013, I finally had the time and energy to renew my interests in fabric, beads, leather, and string. I love to play with colors, textures, and shapes, and making handcrafted jewelry has become an important part of my life. I am grateful to the artists and crafts people at Seaside Shoppes who have provided encouragement and helpful advice.
I taught myself to paint when I was 19 , after I watched people painting on PBS. I started out using oils and used that medium for many years. Then I went to painting on clothing and other crafts. In the early 90’s I started mural painting all over Jacksonville. I painted for several home builders doing faux finishes and murals for their model homes. I did a nursery for one of the jaguar players in Queens Harbor. I’ve been with the shop since Joy opened up on Shetter Avenue. Then she moved us to our current location. I did furniture along with my artwork for many years, now I’m concentrating more on just my artwork.
So glad you’re here! My name’s Mehgan
and I was born and raised in Jax, FL!
Since I was a little girl I always
considered myself a “crafter.” A year
ago, I took a leap of faith to become a
creative entrepreneur bringing creative
visions to life through custom
woodworking, calligraphy, workshops,
painting and unique artistry.
I love how blends of colors evoke
emotion to tell a story and how
personalized touches make each piece
of art feel like family!
At the heart of my work is a desire to
inspire women to believe that they too
can create, “Because who says that
crafting is only for kids!”
As a proud vendor of the Seaside Shoppes since 2016, I have showcased an arrary of eclectic, bohemian, and coastal furniture and decor, feaaturing one of a kind handmade pieces. Living in coastal Florida, I find inspiration in the ocean's hues, sunrises, and sunsets. Embodying a gypsy soul with a hippie spirit, my art is often influenced by 70s music and reflects my personality.
Diane Gibbs, AKA Nana’s Cabana, is one of the original artists and vendors who began with Seaside Shoppes 15 years ago. Her travels to the Bahamas and love of all things of the ocean
